Tavist Interactions Explained
The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when
Tavist is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Alcohol
You should avoid alcohol while taking Tavist, as undesirable side effects (such as excessive drowsiness, dizziness, or confusion) may result.
Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor Medications
Taking Tavist with an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor can make both medications less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and adjust your dose of these medications to prevent interactions from occurring. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these medications.
Anticholinergic Drugs
Combining an anticholinergic medication with Tavist (which is also an anticholinergic medication) can increase your risk of
Tavist side effects, such as dry mouth,
constipation, dry eyes, or difficulty passing urine. Check with your healthcare provider before combining these medications.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Taking Tavist and an MAOI together can prolong and intensify certain side effects of Tavist (such as drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dry eyes, or difficulty passing urine). Check with your healthcare provider before combining these medications.
Other Medications That Cause Drowsiness
Check with your healthcare provider before combining Tavist with any other medication that also causes drowsiness, as undesirable side effects (such as excessive drowsiness, dizziness, or confusion) may result.
Phenothiazines
It is possible that Tavist may increase the risk of a dangerous irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) due to a phenothiazine medication. Additionally, combining Tavist with a phenothiazine increases the risk of excessive drowsiness.
