If you have nasal or sinus congestion due to allergies or the common cold, you may benefit from Sudafed PE® (phenylephrine hydrochloride). This non-prescription medication works by causing the blood vessels to constrict, allowing less fluid to leave the blood vessels and decreasing inflammation. This medication comes in tablet or liquid form. It is taken by mouth, usually every four hours. Possible side effects include insomnia, dizziness, and nervousness.
