Pneumonia is an infection within one or both lungs. Common symptoms include trouble breathing, a cough that produces green or yellow phlegm, and chest pain when breathing or coughing. There are a number of different types of this illness, and each one can be caused by several different viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites.
If you have pneumonia, treatment options will vary, based on the type you have, your age, and other factors. Most people can be treated at home with rest, fluids, and certain over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed.
