The Pneumonia Vaccine Adverse Reactions

The pneumonia vaccine is available in the form of two brand-name products: Pneumovax® and Prevnar 13®. Although most people tolerate these products well, side effects are possible. Some of the adverse reactions reported with these pneumonia vaccines include irritability and drowsiness (mostly with Prevnar 13 in children) and pain, redness, or other injection site reactions (with Pneumovax or Prevnar 13 in adults).

Before getting the pneumonia vaccine, talk to your healthcare provider about any adverse reactions. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know if you will have problems with this product. If you happen to develop symptoms such as high fever or seizures after getting vaccinated, tell your healthcare provider right away.
