Neti Pots and Pregnancy

There is no conclusive scientific evidence to suggest that using a neti pot is safe (or unsafe) during pregnancy. However, there is no reason to suspect that it would cause problems if a pregnant woman were to use a neti pot. In fact, it may be a good choice when pregnancy limits the cold or allergy medications that a woman can take.

It should be noted that this applies only to neti pot usage with saline (salt water) solution. Using aromatic salts (instead of plain saline) might not be equally safe, depending on the particular product.

If you are pregnant, it is always a good idea to have a discussion with your healthcare provider before taking any medications or supplements or using any alternative treatments, including a neti pot. While it is unlikely that your healthcare provider will discourage the use of a neti pot, he or she may have other useful suggestions for treating your particular nasal problem.
