Neo-Synephrine Dosage

The Neo-Synephrine dosage for treating nasal or sinus congestion will depend on which product you use (there are Mild, Regular, Extra-Strength, or Nighttime formulations). For Neo-Synephrine products containing phenylephrine, the recommended dose is two or three sprays in each nostril, not more often than every four hours. For products containing oxymetazoline, dosing calls for two or three sprays in each nostril twice daily.

Dosage of Neo-Synephrine: An Introduction

The standard recommended dose of Neo-Synephrine® (phenylephrine or oxymetazoline nasal spray) varies, depending on the particular product. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Neo-Synephrine Dosing for Nasal or Sinus Congestion

For Neo-Synephrine products containing phenylephrine hydrochloride (Mild, Regular, and Extra-Strength Neo-Synephrine), the recommended dose is two or three sprays in each nostril, not more often than every four hours. For Neo-Synephrine Nighttime (which contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride), the recommended dosage is two or three sprays in each nostril every 10 to 12 hours, not to exceed two doses in a 24-hour period.

Neo-Synephrine Mild Strength (phenylephrine hydrochloride 0.25%) and Neo-Synephrine Nighttime (oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.05%) sprays are approved for use in children as young as six years old.

Neo-Synephrine Regular Strength (phenylephrine hydrochloride 0.5%) and Extra-Strength (phenylephrine hydrochloride 1%) sprays are approved for use in children as young as 12 years old. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using this drug for your child.

Do not use Neo-Synephrine for more than three days in a row, as a worsening of congestion may occur (see Neo-Synephrine Addiction).
