Nasal congestion with chronic sinusitis is usually described as a blockage or stuffiness on both sides of the nasal passages. People with chronic sinusitis do not complain of nasal fullness as often as people with acute sinusitis.
Decreased Sense of Smell
People with chronic sinusitis may complain of a partial or complete loss of smell. They may also complain of a decreased ability to taste food.

Other Possible Symptoms of Chronic Sinusitis

A person with chronic sinusitis may also have other signs or symptoms, including:
  • Fatigue
  • Low-grade fever.

How Do Chronic Sinusitis Symptoms Start?

Symptoms of chronic sinusitis might begin as an acute sinus infection. Then, for whatever reason, the symptoms don't get better.
Other people may have on-again, off-again signs that develop over months or years. In some cases, a person diagnosed with chronic sinusitis first complains of a severe headache or changes in vision.

How Long Do Signs Last?

Most of the time, chronic sinusitis cannot be cured. Some people have symptoms that never completely get better, although they do get worse at certain times. Other people will have symptoms that completely go away for periods of time and then return.
