Cold Home > Alavert-D Side Effects

Some of the most common side effects of Alavert-D include insomnia, dry mouth, and drowsiness. Other, less common side effects (occurring in 2 to 3 percent of people) included coughing, nausea, and a loss of appetite. Several rare but potentially serious side effects that may require medical attention include chest pain, seizures, and difficulty passing urine.

An Introduction to Alavert-D Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Alavert®-D 12 Hour Allergy & Sinus (loratadine and pseudoephedrine sulfate) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Alavert-D. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Alavert-D side effects with you.)

Common Side Effects of Alavert-D

Although Alavert-D is a non-prescription medication, there was once a prescription version of the same medication sold under a different name. Based on this information, some of the common Alavert-D side effects include:
  • Insomnia -- in up to 16 percent of people
  • Dry mouth -- up to 14 percent
  • Drowsiness -- up to 7 percent
  • Nervousness -- up to 5 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 4 percent
  • Fatigue -- up to 4 percent.
Other common side effects (occurring in 2 percent to 3 percent of people) include:
  • Loss of appetite
  • Thirst
  • Coughing
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Nausea
  • Painful menstrual periods.
