Gemifloxacin

Available by prescription only, gemifloxacin can help treat bacterial infections, including pneumonia and bronchitis. This medication comes in the form of a tablet and is used once daily. It works by interfering with bacteria's ability to multiply. Although most people tolerate this medication well, side effects may still occur and can include diarrhea, headaches, and nausea.

What Is Gemifloxacin?

Gemifloxacin mesylate (Factive®) is a prescription medication that belongs to a group of drugs called fluoroquinolones, or "quinolones" for short. Like other quinolones, gemifloxacin is an antibiotic. It is approved to treat certain types of bronchitis and pneumonia.

Are There Side Effects?

Just like any medicine, gemifloxacin can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
 
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious reactions are less common.
