Dextromethorphan is a medicine used to treat a minor cough due to the flu, a cold, or certain other conditions. It can also help treat sudden outbursts of laughing and crying associated with a neurological condition called pseudobulbar affect (PBA). This drug is available in both prescription and nonprescription products and comes in a variety of forms, including tablets, capsules, and an oral liquid.
