Allergic Reactions to Dextromethorphan

Although most people do not experience any problems with dextromethorphan, certain risks are associated with the use of this drug. For example, possible side effects of the medicine include drowsiness, dizziness, and nausea.
 
Some dextromethorphan side effects are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include depression, slurred speech, and irregular breathing. Dextromethorphan can also cause allergic reactions in rare cases. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
  • An unexplained rash
  • Swelling of the mouth or throat
  • Difficulty breathing.
