Treating the Common Cold

Although nothing can actually cure the common cold (other than time), treatment can help relieve symptoms. Bed rest, drinking lots of fluids, and taking medications are the usual remedies. Alcohol and drinks containing caffeine may have a dehydrating effect, so avoid them when you are suffering from a cold.

Check with a pediatrician before giving medication to children when treating the common cold. Your healthcare provider can ensure that you are giving your child the correct drug at the proper dosage based on your child's weight.
