Ceftin Antibiotic Information

Ceftin® (cefuroxime axetil) is available only by prescription and is approved for treating certain bacterial infections, such as bladder infections, ear infections, and strep throat. This antibiotic is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medicines you are taking before prescribing Ceftin.

Although many people do not have any problems while taking this antibiotic, Ceftin can cause side effects, such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.

Ceftin comes in the form of tablets and an oral suspension (liquid), and is typically taken twice daily. Do not miss doses or stop taking this antibiotic earlier than your healthcare provider recommends, as bacterial resistance may develop.
