Antibiotics Treatment for Sinusitis

It was once thought that bacteria were the cause of chronic sinusitis. However, research is showing that this may not be the case. Chronic sinus infections are now thought to be related to long-term inflammation. This changes the standard treatment for the condition. Although antibiotics were the treatment of choice for chronic sinusitis and other types, they are no longer the first line of defense in many cases.

Even so, antibiotics are often prescribed for those who have a chronic sinus infection. You may be wondering, "If my sinusitis is not caused by bacteria, why are antibiotics necessary?" This is because antibiotics are usually needed at one time or another; people with chronic sinusitis will almost always develop a bacterial infection from time to time.
