If you have problems swallowing Ceftin® (cefuroxime axetil) tablets, your healthcare provider may prescribe the liquid form of this medication. When using the oral suspension (liquid), your Ceftin dosage will depend on your weight. This liquid form of the medication is approved for use in children 3 months through 12 years of age.
It is important to note that the liquid and the tablets are not equivalent on a mg-per-mg basis. For example, one 500 mg tablet is not equivalent to 500 mg of liquid Ceftin.
You can take Ceftin with or without food. Regardless of how you take it, do not stop taking this medicine too soon, as it can lead to antibiotic resistance.
