Augmentin XR Side Effects

Most people are able to take Augmentin XR without any problems. However, some people do experience side effects during treatment. In clinical studies, the most common problems included diarrhea, nausea, and vaginal yeast infections. Although most side effects of Augmentin XR tend to be minor, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop hives, bloody diarrhea, or other potentially serious problems.

An Introduction to Augmentin XR Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Augmentin XR® (amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium XR). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Augmentin XR

Augmentin XR has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, side effects occurring in the group of people taking this antibiotic were documented. Based on these studies, the most common reactions to Augmentin XR tablets included:
 
  • Diarrhea -- in up to 14.5 percent of people
  • Vaginal yeast infection -- up to 3.3 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 2.1 percent
  • Loose stools -- up to 1.6 percent.
