Alavert-D Drug Interactions

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Erythromycin may increase the level of Alavert-D in the blood, although studies suggest that this interaction is unlikely to cause any problems. However, you may want to consult your healthcare provider, especially if you notice any increase in Alavert-D side effects.

Erythromycin (EryTab)
Taking Alavert-D with erythromycin may change the way your body handles Alavert-D, possibly increasing the level of Alavert-D in your blood. However, this interaction seems to be unlikely to cause problems for most people.

Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
Combining Nizoral with Alavert-D may increase the level of Alavert-D in your blood, although studies have not shown this to be a problem for most people.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Combining Alavert-D with an MAOI can cause serious problems. Do not take Alavert-D while taking an MAOI (or even within two weeks of stopping an MAOI). This drug interaction is due to the pseudoephedrine component of Alavert-D; plain Alavert does not contain pseudoephedrine and does not cause similar problems.
