Afrin Drug Interactions

Cannabinoids, MAOIs, and tricyclic antidepressants are among the drugs that may negatively interact with Afrin. Drug interactions such as these may cause problems, such as an increased heart rate, high blood pressure, and even life-threatening complications. To avoid any problems, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking before starting treatment with Afrin.

An Introduction to Afrin Interactions

Afrin® (oxymetazoline nasal spray) can potentially interact with a number of other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with Afrin include but are not limited to:
 
  • Cannabinoids, such as:
 
    • Dronabinol (Marinol®)
    • Marijuana
    • Nabilone (Cesamet™)
 
  • Iobenguane I 123 (AdreView™)
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as:
